History
Forty-five kilometres south-east of Bordeaux, at Saint-Pierre-de-Bat in the Entre-Deux-Mers hills, the Simonneau family has farmed Château Morlan-Tuilière for six generations. The estate has followed organic practices since 1970 and has been Demeter-certified since 2003. The dossier describes vines never treated with weedkiller. Its 27 hectares lie on limestone and clay beneath iron-rich loess. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon supply the reds; Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle supply the whites. Isabelle Simonneau, trained in oenology and wine commerce, has led the estate since 1994. Four brands and two independent wines cover reds, dry whites, clairet, rosé, Haut-Benauge sweet white, crémant and alcohol-free sparkling grape juice. Several references are bottled without added sulphites.
Terroir
Entre-Deux-Mers lies between the Garonne and Dordogne, in a landscape of hills and woodland. At Saint-Pierre-de-Bat, iron-rich loess over clay and limestone supports both red and white grapes. Isabelle Simonneau’s selection covers dry and sweet whites, reds, clairet, rosé, crémant and sparkling grape juice. Several specific references have no added sulphites; this is not assumed for the whole range.
Winemaking
Château Laubarit, La Petite Robe / Ganimède, Château Morlan-Tuilière, Royal-Tuilière, Le Plantadey and Paillette d’Or make up the range. La Petite Robe and Ganimède are two labels for the same wine, not separate cuvées.
